Despite the fact C&C: Generals 2 is NOT due out until sometime in 2013, the game has made a voting list for 'Most Anticipated Game of 2012' at the Voodoo Extreme website. When I voted, Generals 2 had a little over 150 votes compared to the over 5,000 votes for the #1 spot which was commanded by Dota 2.

Those of ya interested in the poll can vote HERE.

MTV Multiplayer's Bioware Interview

During a recent interview with Bioware's CEO Ray Muzyka and VP Greg Zeschuck on the topic of Star Wars: The Old Republic (another Bioware game), MYV asked them why their dev team thought Command and Conquer: Generals was a good outlet for storytelling. Here's their response to that.
CEO Ray Muzyka: To answer broadly and then specifically, I’ll start with the broad discussion of what Bioware means as a label. It means a couple of things: there’s the philosophy of Bioware and our vision of creating, delivering, and evolving the most emotionally-engaging games in the world. And there’s a large overlap between real-time strategy fans and RPG fans and MMO fans. So, we’re excited about the opportunity get into a universe that I enjoyed - I enjoyed Command and Conquer a lot and a lot of the people on the rest of the Bioware label enjoyed it a lot. So partnering with Bioware-Victory allows us to pursue that vision in the RTS space.

It doesn’t mean we’re going to implement story in the way that you’ve seen in Bioware games previously, it doesn’t mean won’t implement story either. What it means is we’re going to implement story and emotionally-engaging content in a way that’s appropriate for that genre. And delivering that Bioware quality is another aspect of that vision - creating, delivering, and evolving really high-quality games that emotionally compel and engage.

There’s another aspect of the Bioware label [and] that’s how we do things, the process by which we do things. Sharing knowledge between team members, enabling technology and moving back and forth between different genres and enabling different genre groups to pursue excellence in their own respective fields. We have a business unit dedicated to social games, a business unit devoted to RPGs - the Mass Effects and Dragon Ages and other future products - a business unit dedicated to MMOs. These are all examples of how we’re pursuing excellence in different areas that are extending our brand but definitely not diluting it. They’re enhancing and adding. It’s a very careful, thoughtful evolution and growth and it’s all in ways that [are] consistent with our core values around quality and emotionally-engaging content.

The more specific answer is that we have some awesome people that we’ve partnered with at Bioware-Victory and we’re really excited about that, you know, John Van Caneghem [General Manager of Victory Games] and others who a lot of experience and passion for the space. And I think we’re going to do some amazing work. You know, Generals is a really interesting IP, it’s one of the most compelling, and it’s certainly the one that fans have been clamoring for a sequel for the most. So bringing the Bioware fundamental vision of the most engaging content and really high-quality gameplay, combining that with appropriately-woven story that also lets you experience this amazing, kick-ass action, what RTS fans expect, and all of the features that real-time strategy fans demand, and 'giving the team the time and space to build something that’s completely awesome.' That’s what we’re really doing here.
Hmmm..."giving the team the time and space to build something that’s completely awesome." Now there's a refreshing statement that I hope holds true this time around. Check out the full Bioware interview HERE.
Tiberium Alliances Beta Goes Live!

Last night around 6:30 I received an e-mail letting me know I'm in the Tiberium Alliances beta. Pretty good for a game that was only announced last week!

Now, there's an NDA so I can't give out much but I can let you know I am enjoying it. I think that the studio who put this game together did a great job and for a beta so far it runs pretty smooth.

Now as a disclaimer, because I saw this on the main C&C Forums. Phenomic in no way is affiliated with EA, C&C 4 for Generals 2 so there is no past history you have to worry about (which is good and bad) nor will Alliances affect the development of Generals 2 in anyway whatsoever, heck the games are being made in different countries!

Lastly, if you are in the beta the den does have an alliance called "The Den" so find me, join me and help me fight the good fight!

Generals 2 Map Making?

Hope everyone's having a great weekend. I received an email from someone who's created maps for previous Command & Conquer games, and he wanted to know IF there will be a map editor for Generals 2. Good question...

Since Frostbite 2 is the new game engine being used for Generals 2, there won't be a Worldbuilder Editor. Sage is out the door. From what I've read about the Frostbite 2 game engine, there may not be any fan created maps. I understand DLC (downloadable content) will be most likely how we'll get new maps, etc. That can be either FREE or PAID content, or a mixture of both. It's just too early to tell with the game not coming out until 2013.

Personally, it would be a big disappointment if fan created maps are out, and we have to rely on DLC only. I play the Settlers games, and with Settlers 7, they did away with a map editor, and you have to pay for new maps and other content. It DOES get old playing the same maps over and over again...and when the developers abandon the game, the fans are left behind. Times are changing, so what the heck can ya do...Anyhoot, Generals 2 will be the first RTS game to use the Frostbite 2 game engine, so we'll see how things pan out going forward.
