Welcome to the DEN Soldier!
Lion's April 2013 Blurb  - The last time I posted a blurb was way back in January of this year. I'm still lurking about, waiting on EA to give us some important news regarding the new Command & Conquer game. Nothing major is going on with my life off the net. Still entertaining my cats, doing some fishing on my bass boat, playing my guitar, and rejoicing that I made it through another winter. Just a reminder that I am still retired/semi-retired. I'm sticking around to see if the Command & Conquer franchise will be resuscitated...Lion

C&C Community Manager EA_CIRE has posted a word on the official C&C forums HERE about the new Command & Conquer online game in the works. Below is a snip from that post.
Today at gamescom, we announced a bold move for EA and especially for the C&C franchise. I don’t want to go into the typical marketing mode here with you guys. Instead, I want to talk to you as an honest C&C fan.

If you haven’t seen it already, WATCH THE TRAILER! Pretty awesome and yes, that’s how the games looks on max settings right now. But you probably have a billion questions, so instead of simply linking you to the FAQ (oh, I just did), I will answer some questions right here.

There is a reason why this looks like Generals 2. Content we’ve built for Generals 2 isn’t going into the trash – It is marking the initial content for this new Free Command & Conquer game. The way you play won’t change – Start a fully feature loaded desktop client, choose a game mode, play with friends, build bases, gather resources and command massive armies – Just like you are used to from the original Generals. The major difference between Generals 2 and this newly announce Command & Conquer is the amount you have to pay.

You don’t have to pay 60 dollars upfront for a game that you haven’t played before. You can start for free and play for free. Everything is packed into the Frostbite 2 engine, which delivers a never before seen level of visual awesomeness for the C&C franchise. If you like the game, there will be possibilities to support its development with cool customization options that will give you the power to differentiate your army from everybody else on the battlefield.
Check out EA_Cire's full post HERE. EA_Cire is trying to put a positive spin on this unexpected announcement that Generals 2 is no more, and is being replaced by an online game called Command & Conquer. Hey, it's his job. Anyhoot, I've been a part of the C&C community for over 15 years now, and have watched many changes take place over the years. Change is usually good, but in this case, I'm not sure. I'm also not sure what role us fan sites play anymore. We have no more maps, mods, etc. for new games to fill our websites with content. A toy store with no more toys.

I'm not sure what to think of this either.

If there is a map editor, rest assured I will be back at it making maps.

But from the sounds of it, this is a pipe dream at the moment sad

There really is no more C&C as far as I am concerned, might as well pack it up guys, it's over.

'Power to differentiate your army from everyone else on the battlefield' sounds like 'Pay to Win' to me.

RTS gamers are, I think, among the most competitive. We don't usually shell out for purely cosmetic upgrades.

No, that doesn't have to mean Pay 2 Win, just Pay to Have Skins....

Hell, look at all those Facebook games...

Not just skins, but actual different models and names for basically units with the same stats.

"Generals 2 will be tied to an online account that can be levelled up with new matches. Regular DLC, both free and paid-for, will add new maps and modes as time goes on."

Sounds like there will be different leveling in this game. But if its done like Tiberium Alliance, then its going to suck hard. I was in the beta for TA, and it took forver to rank up once you got to a certain rank, and in that game the ranks actually influence how strong your units are. That game also works on a time based actions like facebook games, meaning it will take you long to do anything in higher rank, including trying to rank up, unless you pay money. I hope this new game doesn't do this.

Not to mentions now people have to pay for DLC for new maps and new modes. No more community stuff when EA can make more money.

Hey Cypher, why are you kissing so much of EA's ass? It's really sickening how you just swallow down their crap, it's really pathetic.

Now Neojames, just because Cypher disagrees doesn't give you the right to use that kind of language - we can be civilised, right?

But back to the debate - I really don't see EA charging us for ONLY cosmetic changes. There's definitely going to be units and more gameplay options ONLY available to those who choose to spend real money, be it upgrades or new factions, or whatever.

I won't believe 'only cosmetic upgrades with real money' until I hear them say it.

We are focused very hard on not making this Pay 2 Win.

So, additionally to the cosmetic upgrades and the likes, there will be paid DLC, of course. Be it in the form of maps, new - balanced - factions or SP missions etc' etc'.

There's plenty that can be done to earn money.
Sure, maybe even specific game modes, MP modes, that allow for Pay 2 Win, but that's not instead of regular FFA, with all available factions units, but in addition to. Parallel.

Sorry Swift but I am done being really civilized, mostly because now EA has gone so far away from what C&C was about, it is an insult to all of the fans, including Lion, who has been loyal to the series even it the dark days but even he seems to be fed up with it and I don't blame him.

As a fellow mapmaker here, i find it hard to gain inspiration anymore due to loss of public interest i guess as everything does kind of feel flat or restrictive to developers only which kills the new games i feel these days and kills the community and loyal fan base since profit is consol based rather than allow a game to be nurished and flurish to something special and unique. They may see it as expansion pack sales but not going there.lol...

If there is a map editor, ill pump the den full of maps again just like i did with zh...been dieing to create something new but just stumped now for ideas. Start something new butdont know what to do with it or what people want....or what game still has interest, zh, cc3, kane wrath... Not cc4, didnt even buy it with good reason!....but also work and uni etc has been a restrictive force over past few years.

But im still here with yous, can you email our fellow mapers, ay be kickstart or reignite a flame?
Lion, if we have a demand poll, i feel mapers could use something like that to cater to remaining public interest, may kickstart some enthusiasm. But my fear of free to play is that all or any content worth having youll have to pay a fortune for, ie every single map. Very concerned.

My fellow team mate Chaos12 also feels he wants to do something amazing with the new CC, like when we created artic avalanche...its something we took pride in especialy when loads of people can enjoy it...theres a buzz to it... I loved battlefield bad company, bf3 is good and would love a chance to explore a map editor for such a promising game on a CC world. I feel custom maps under non ranked options would be a harmless addition to the game. Just wait and see I guess.
