Westwood Official Renegade Mod Tool - Updated 6/28/02

Official Westwood Mod Tutorials can be found here.

NOTE: The updated Game Pack from Westwood comes with a new feature called a heightfield editor.  Greg Hjelstrom (Lead designer of Renegade), explains how to use this new editor below.

Here's how to use the heightfield editor:

1- Go to the "Heightfield" tab of the presets pane and click "Create New..."

2- Specify the width and length of your level and the point density. Note that these settings cannot be changed after the fact and you cannot delete a heightfield from an LVL once you've created it.

3- To edit your height field click the "Heightfield Edit Mode" icon on the main toolbar. You can then use the brush types on the Heightfield tab to edit the terrain. Most brushes do one operation when you left-click and the opposite operation when you right-click.

4- Set up the textures you want to use on your terrain in the "Materials" section of the heightfield panel. NOTE: all textures used on a heightfield must be in a "heightfield" subdirectory in your mod. Use the "Texture Paint" brush to "spraypaint" texture onto your terrain.
