A time to pause and
remember...On January 29, 2003, EA announced the closing of Westwood
Studios. So much time has passed since that very sad day for not only the fans, but also the employees who worked for Westwood.
This section is a tribute to all those fine and talented men and
women who had a hand in the development of the Command &
Conquer Universe of games. |
In
1985, Brett W. Sperry and Louis Castle set to work in a small
garage in Las Vegas, Nevada. Westwood Studios was born out of
those humble beginnings, and became one of the most successful
entertainment software companies in the history of the industry.
All Real Time Strategy games developed today can trace their
roots back to Westwood, and to the game that defined it all,
Dune II: The Building of a Dynasty, released in 1992. |
In
1995 came Command & Conquer: Dawn, and one year later
Command Conquer: Red Alert. Both games set sales records
the world over and redefined the real-time strategy genre. Over
the years more titles for Command & Conquer would be
released, and Westwood's success would continue. |
| In
1998, Westwood Studios became a part Electronic Arts. This
marriage would last for five years. In 2003 our beloved Westwood
Studios was closed by EA. Gone but never forgotten. |

In
memory of Westwood
Studios, I
have made several wallpapers. The first two wallpapers
commemorate the 10th anniversary of Command & Conquer
(1995-2005). The last two wallpapers show the pictures of Brett Sperry
and Louis Castle, the two visionaries who started it all. The
first one is for those of you who like to have a clean look to
your desktop. Picture below that shows the GDI and Nod logos in
the background. |
